Rotorua Duck Tours started operation in December 2003 and can be credited as the first and still the only company in New Zealand to provide amphibious sightseeing tours in authentic WWII landing crafts.
A family affair (Rotorua Duck Tours is owned by husband and wife, Peter and Anna Weir and Peter’s brother Trevor), the ‘duck” was an idea conceived at a family Christmas five years ago. Peter had seen them in the US and thought it was a concept that would work well in New Zealand.
Rotorua Duck Tours introduces some of the areas spectacular scenery and provides an informative insight into the history and the people of Rotorua.
As a testament to the success of the product a second duck was purchased in 2006, and a third duck has been purchased from the US and should be operational by summer 2008/9. “I think people appreciate that we have a unique product that offers a versatile Rotorua experience that’s fun, educational and an adventure all ages can enjoy” says Trevor. Set up to provide guardianship over the resources of Rotorua and to provide visitors an invitation to enjoy these resources. One outcome of becoming a member of the charter was to convert our WWII Landing Crafts to Biofuel which is a cleaner burning fuel.
